The history of the Scottish Rite

The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite traces its roots back to the 18th century, when it was formalized in France. It is characterized by its philosophical depth and its structure of 33 degrees, which represent a progressive series of teachings on morality, spirituality, and Masonic principles. The Rite was officially founded in 1801 in Charleston, South Carolina, with the establishment of the first Supreme Council in the world.

Global Expansion

During the 19th century, the Scottish Rite expanded throughout Europe and Latin America, becoming one of the most widely practiced rites in Freemasonry. Each of the degrees offers lessons that encourage introspection and self-improvement, with a strong emphasis on service to humanity.
